Adriana Cavalcanti is an interdisciplinary artist born and raised in Brazil whose work explores environmental issues, sustainability, and human relationships with the natural world. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology in 2010, followed by a Master’s in Botany from Rio de Janeiro State University, where she collaborated with bird ecologists on conservation biology projects. During her research, Adriana realized that meaningful environmental conservation requires active societal participation, which she found lacking in her work.
In 2013, she moved to São Paulo and enrolled in the Brazilian School of Landscape Design, combining botanical knowledge with creative practice to design immersive spaces using native species that foster connection with nature. In 2014, she relocated to North America, a transition that prompted a redefinition of her professional path.
Adriana began her artistic career in ceramics, later expanding into interdisciplinary practice through the Intermedia program at the University of Maine, graduating in 2022. Her thesis employed studio practice and autoethnographic research to examine household waste production, integrating it into creative work while addressing overconsumption and its entanglement with hidden economic and social structures.
Currently, Adriana divides her time between professional gardening, soundscape research, and material exploration, integrating her botanical knowledge, artistic practice, and ecological awareness across all aspects of her work.
